The Ice Portis Blog
Just waking up in the morning gotta thank God...
I proceed to the gym and do my daily exercise, 26 must feel good, because I was a beast on the treadmill and the elliptical machine. I left the gym and showered up, got clean and looking good for class etc, etc... All of my classes were cool. I attempted to get out of them by informing each of my professors that it was my "Born Date", each of those attempts failed miserably. Later on that day I dropped in on my dad's friends house, his mother had passed that previous Thursday, I had to show love and support. Just because it was my b-day did not specifically mean that everything was all about me, ya dig? After that stop I had to swing through my Aunt Ruth's house, we share the same birthday too. Unfortunately she wasn't home, so I left her card on her bed. Last, but not least, I stopped by my homie D'Arryl's house, because his birthday is on the 25th too. We bugged out a minute, I played with my Godson, and we had a couple shots of Cognac -smooooooooooooth-! After my adult beverage cooled off and a game of Madden, I made my way to the house to call it a night. All that I can say is "It feels good to be here!!!!"
....I gotta say it was a good day!

The Random ISH Blog
As you can see I'm in the blogging mood, so I figured that I'd take advantage of it while I'm in this mood (never know when it'll hit again...... enjoy.....
Why Benedict College make a mountain out of a mole? I can't wait for the Jordan Packages that will be released in May and June! School is almost over for the semester, 3.33, can't complain about that. Got my government tax return the other day (*insert ballin' jumpshot here*). My Godson BJ is growing, the higher we raise the rim, the more baskets he makes, lil dude is talented. Have you tried Minute Maid's Pomegrantite Lemon (it's quite addictive- I'm actually drinking some now, while I'm typing)? Celtics-Lakers Final? I think that a mosquito caught me on the neck while I was cutting the grass today. I miss my cousin E already..... be safe over there in Kuwait. Hey E, bring me back some 87 Unleaded Gas for the Ram, thanks in advance! I think that I will buy Reasonable Doubt for the fourth and FINAL time tomorrow. That's it...
The Investment Blog
This Blog was just a regular blog; however, the few people who managed to read my Cultural Diversity Blog suggested that I write more poetry, well here ya go...... enjoy.....
Investment not referring to financial gain/
Investment, listen, it's simplistically plain/
Open your eyes and ears and listen when cued/
Invest in me and I'll invest in you/
Seems like I give more than I receive/
Others are interested in my best, I want to believe /
I'm certain that this statement isn't always true /
Invest in me and I'll invest in you /
Tired of bending over backwards, for various favors /
When I am taken for granted for random labors /
I won't short change, I'll pay all that's due /
Invest in me and I'll invest in you /
I'm still that same ol' laid back dude/
Lately I've approached people with a different attitude /
If you're still confused, listen for the clue /
Invest in me and I'll invest in you /
Whether friend, foe, or family and kin/
I'm only reciprocating the love that you send /
Treat me however, but remember when you do/
Invest in me and I'll invest in you

The Cultural Diversity Blog
What's good all?! This blog is basically a recent class assignment, that was given to me roughly a week ago. I thought that it was dope so I figured that I'd share it with you. Initially my professor gave the class some instructions, we we're told to write 1 sentence starting with "I am"; however, there were some restrictions to our sentence. I thought that I was "beating the system" and wrote "I am me.", my sentence did comply with all of her restrictions. The following class our professor read a poem with the same "I am" format, we were instructed to do the same, and here is what I wrote.......
I am origianlly from Hopkins, SC
I am going to tell you that's outside of Cola if you ask "Where that be?"
I am a son, brother, cousin, and nephew
I am also a God-Dad, friend, and associate to few
I am a former football player, now just a fan
I am a shoe lover, partial to the Jordan Brand
I am a student pursuing a degree
I am telling Dr. Carmen again that I am only me
I am a fan of music, I can't live without it
I am planning on doing my homework later, but I doubt it
I am a cool dude, take time to know me
I am not bragging, just doing what Carman told me
After that it seemed as my peers dug a little deeper for the "I am" assignment, so our professor allowed us to take the poems home a revise them. Here is my revision.....
I am admitting… after listening to my classmates submissions/
I am glad to have a chance to alter my “I Am” rendition/
I am many adjectives, and I be a lot of verbs/
I am brief in that description, just to save a few words/
I am still from 29061, or Hopkins, SC/
I am hoping you looked it up, so I don’t have to say “where it be”/
I am Jonathan, Big Jon, J all depends on where I know you from/
I am pretty nice in Madden, lemme know if you want some/
I am going to make a change in my career of choice/
I am going to be heard, I will share my voice/
I am a former football player, high school and BC/
I am a little salty that football ended prematurely/
I am large in stature, with a heart that is the same/
I am a “momma’s boy” that may never change/
I am not where I want to be, but I’m still paying dues/
I am aware that success is certain, I will not loose/
I am a Jordan fan, we should be just alike/
I am always wearing Jordan’s, sometimes, just a clean pair of Nik’s/
I am a fan of music, no restrictions on the type/
I am not a poet, but I do blog when I wanna write/
I am respectful, but I request it in return/
I am one of the coolest guys in the room, take time and learn/
I am a college dropout, that has a changed outlook on things/
I am now aware of that mistake and the stress that it brings/
I am a son, brother, “Amigo”, cousin, and a nephew/
I am a God-Dad, homie, friend and associate to few/
I am repeating that I am a cool dude, take time and you’ll see/
I am still telling Dr. Carman that I am still just me/
I am this I am that when push comes to shoveI am answer “e)” on your test, all the above
Basically, this assignment was to help us learn a little about or classmates and to show us, the future educators of America, that there will be people from all walks of life seated before us in our classrooms. Good job Dr. Carmen.

The Transition Blog
Long time no blog, but hey, what are you going to do..... take my "blogger's license"? This blog is 21 days overdue, but alas, it has arrived. Better late than never, right? Hopefully everyone is settled in for 2008. As for resolutions, I don't make those, but if you do that's cool. I mean let's think about it for a moment- we're all adults and we are well aware of the things that we need to do to better ourselves. Just do it! As far as 2007 is concerned, I feel that I left that year older and wiser. Physically, I lost a cousin to a car accident in May, but the funny things is, through his death I found out the role that I played in his life. It's crazy how a funeral can teach you so much about a person, even if you are around them often enough to claim that you "know" them. Through his death I also realized that God balances things out; consequently, another boy was born into that branch of my family around Thanksgiving. The 4th quarter of 2007 taught me a lot too, I learned not to take various daily tasks and situations for granted, basically I learned to appreciate the smallest of things that occur in my life. The 4th quarter of 2007 also taught me to be patient in my actions. Long story short- time off afforded me the opportunity to learn and to construct strategies for 2008. 2008 will introduce an improved, more productive me to the world. I entered 2008 humbled and excited about the vast possibilities that exist beyond the horizon. The transition is apparent........
Happy (Belated) New Year!
-Jon
P.S.- Special shout outs are in order to those that support me unconditionally, through my ups and my downs. I don't have to name drop, because you should know who you are, right? LOL! Sincerely, much love to you all. I'm off to work.......
